Reply to E-mail posting on CAVIN-L by Sharon Peel
I also am descended from John Robert [or Robert J.] CAVIN who was born in AL
about 1821. I am pleased to learn of another descendant of his who is
researching his ancestry. I seem to know no more of his parents than you, but I haven’
t given up yet.
I am descended from John Robert CAVIN and Martha Lucinia MATTHEWS through
their 4th child, James Wesley CAVIN, born in 1856 at Jackson County, Alabama.
James would have been an older brother [8 years older] to Martha Angeline CAVIN
[Angie]. James Wesley CAVIN married Purlina Angeline Pressley on Dec 27th, 1874
in Jackson County, AL. Two unrelated people both with Angeline as middle
names.
Like your Angie and William, their first child was born in AL in 1877, second
child was born in 1884 [place unknown], and 3rd child [my grandfather, George
Walker CAVIN] was born in 1886 in Eastland County, TX. It appears that the
two families: Angie and William DAVIS and James and Purlina CAVIN traveled from
Jackson County, AL to Eastland County, TX together [along with other DAVIS and
CAVIN families]. James and Purlina CAVIN moved from Eastland County, TX to
Cleveland County, OK soon after Oklahoma Territory was opened up for settlement.
Farm land there remains in the possession of their descendants. Was Selma
Sylvia DAVIS born in Eastland County, TX in 1884? You implied that she was the
second child of Angie and William.
I am interested in direct contact with Sharon Peel in relation to CAVIN
family information she may have. Perhaps if our knowledge is pooled, clues to the
parentage of John Robert [or Robert J.] CAVIN may emerge.
