A couple of things to add to your account. John Cavin was in TN prior to enlisting in the
TN volunteers for the war of 1812. He served with his brother, Ananias Cavin in Captain
George Argenbright's company which was composed of men from Hawkins County, TN.
John's parents were William Cavin and Margaret Skelton. The family moved to Hawkins
County about 1800 along with Margaret's brother, William Skelton, and at least one
sister, who was married to a McElhaney. I have misplaced my notes on his first name. The
Skelton, Cavin, Christian and Bailey families of Hawkins County intermarried frequently
and are very closely connected even to the present time. The information on the
Cavin's in Hawkins County, TN during the early 1800's up to about 1830 is sketchy,
but hopefully more information will turn up one of these days.
