We may have a connection here but I know that my grandfather was called George H (possibly
stood for Hugh)was born in Newtonards near Kearney in County Down in 1879 and died in 1933
age 54. He left Newtowards and came to Barrow-In-Furness to work in the big shipbuilding
yard. He had two sons, one my father James Alexander, my Unlce Douglas and Aunties
Margaret and Mary. Your Hugh could have been my grandfather's brother who left for
Canada. I just don't know. I am in touch with a lady in Newcastle Upon-Tyne who is
going over to Ireland to look up a street called Solway Street where she thinks the family
in Newtownards originally came from. Sounds like there could be a connection maybe even
2nd cousins. If I find out anymore I will let you know. I have been on this trail for
several years now and it has been difficult not being able to trace any records in
Ireland.
Kind Regards.
