This is what I was able to dig up on Joseph C. Cavin on censuses -- nothing helpful for
me, but maybe someone can use the information or see something I missed (I hope!):
Joseph served from June 16, 1846 to May 27, 1847 in the Mexican War. He was mustered out
in New Orleans, LA. He was a private in Captain Richard Jones, Co F, 1st Regt of the AL
Vols commanded by Col John R Coffee.
At the time of his enlistment, he was about 22 y/o, 6' 1-2" high, florid
complexion, pale red hair, blue eyes, and was a farmer.
21 Apr 1880 in Rusk Co, TX, his widow, M J (Mary Jane) Cavin, residing in Briley Town,
Nacogdoches Co, TX (P.O. Steven, Rusk Co, TX) applied for a widow's pension.
A Margaret McCrary was witness to the pension; she lived near Joseph & his father in
Jackson Co, AL. States Joseph and his father moved from AL to ARK then to TX. Mentions G W
&/or C W Cavin.

Could not find Mary Cavin on the 1910 census so she probably died between 1900 and 1910.
