Doug, I remember seeing, years ago, a posting by someone who said they
thought Anna was the mother of
William Cavin. Do you think that's possible?
My GGG-Grandfather Joseph Cavin, who I believe was the son of Wm. and
Margaret Skelton Cavin (no documentation), was born in 1797. I have always
thought that Mary Cavin Christian was his sister. Without going back and
checking, because I'm out of town, I'm pretty sure that Wm. and Margaret had
children born after the turn of the century. Mary, having been born in
1807, would seem to fit into that family ???
I have found no indication that anyone on the Cavin side was of Indian
heritage. I'm wondering if there were any Indian people in the Skelton
family. Have you investigated that angle? I have read the Skelton
information written by Prof. Earl Skelton, but I don't think he indicated
anything to that effect.
Regards,
Charlotte

I am in this same boat. I am a descendant of Mary Cavin, b. 1807,
who
married Lewis Christian. Mary may have been the daughter of an Anna
Cavin.
Was Anna the wife of a son of William and Margaret Skelton Cavin? Or was
she their daughter, and Mary was born out of wedlock.
One item persists: Mary's grandson, my great grandfather Alexander
Patterson, b. 19 Feb 1878 near Puxico, Stoddard County, Missouri, stated
that his grandmother was mostly of American Indian descendant. Another
descendant of Mary's, through her grandson John Christian, also has this
family tradition.
A big brick wall.

Les, I am at a brick wall with my Cavin research. When I saw your
research
on Samuel Cavin, I got excited and hopeful.
I am a descendent of Joseph Cavin b. 1797 Hawkins Co, TN (this is on his
tombstone). Other Cavins in Hawkins Co, TN that could be brothers are
Ananias, John, and William (parent? brother?). A family history written
long ago says Joseph left Hawkins County, TN and moved to Bedford Co, TN
in
1821. I have not found documentation to show this to be true yet. I have
found documentation that Joseph is in Bedford Co, TN by 1831.
The book The Scots-Irish in the Hills of Tennessee says that some of the
descendents of Samuel Cavin settled in Hawkins Co, TN. You obviously are
researching Samuel Cavin, Jr., son of the Samuel Cavin that immigrated to
the U.S.
Have you also tracked OTHER children of Samuel Cavin, Sr.?
Did the senior Samuel Cavin leave a will?
Bottom line, can you help me with the parents of Joseph Cavin? Many
people
think he was the son of William Cavin b. abt. 1755 in VA (?) who married
Margaret Skelton. The same information keeps getting passed around, but
no
one has any documentation to back up this information. I am looking for
proof.....
Any assistance you can give me will be gratefully appreciated. Pat Kinsey
