Hello
I am hoping someone can help me identify the CAVIN
individuals I have found in and around Phillips County,
Arkansas between 1830-1860.
My search centers around my ggg-grandmother who I
strongly suspect is Sarah CAVINS, b. c1812 KY. There is
a marriage record that states Sarah CAVINS married
Benjamin HITE on 2 Feb 1830 Monroe Co., IN. It is well
documented that Samuel R. Cavins resided in Monroe Co.
IN (i.e,
In 1814 he entered the army as a substitute in
the Sixth Kentucky Infantry, and served under General
Jackson at the battle of New Orleans. He went to the
battlefield of Tippecanoe a year after the battle to
assist in gathering up the remains of the dead
soldiers. In 1822 he returned to Indiana from Kentucky,
and resided a few years in Monroe county...)
In my search for my elusive ggg-grandmother I have found
the following CAVINs and am curious as to their tie-in
to my Sarah (Cavins) HITE who is found in Phillips Co.,
AR. Several other ancestors who relate to the HITE
family are Hugh McCRARY b. 1792 KY (also a soldier of
War of 1812 & battle of New Orleans
). I have been able
to trace Hugh McCrary early on to Pope Co., AR (1830
Census). Hugh migrated to Phillips Co., AR about the
same timeframe as Elijah & Benjamin CAVINS and is listed
on the Phillips Co., AR tax lists for 1836, 1837, 1838 &
1839. Also in Pope Co, AR on the 1830 Census is one
William CAVIN (1 male under 5yrs; 1 male 10-15; 1 male
15-20; 1 male 20-30; 1 male 40-50; 1 female under 5; 2
females 5-10; 1 female 10-15; 1 female 30-40; 3
slaves).

By the 1860 Census my Sarah (CAVIN) HITE is
likely "deceased" as her husband, Ben HITE is married to
Mary E. ??, b. 1806 GA. Ben HITE moves to Randolph Co.,
AR and dies there in 1871. He was a Methodist minister
and donated land known as the Hite Cemetery.
Ben & Sarah (Cavins) HITE's daughter Harriett Susan
HITE marries Stephen Carroll McCRARY (son of Hugh
McCrary) and also settles in Randolph Co., AR Current
River TWP.
Ben & Sarah (Cavins) HITE's son, Henry Clay HITE
marries Laura McGUIRE and also moves to Randolph Co.
I am sorry if this appears to be a "tangled mess", but
so it goes with families of that era. I am hoping
someone reading this message can help me connect "Sarah
Cavins" to the KY CAVIN family. If not, it has been a
very interesting journey
