I am looking for any info on my g grandfather, Meredith Cavin b: 1848 in Franklin or
Lincoln TN. I can not locate his parents. I have recently found out that I am 6%
sub-saharan african and believe it's from Meredith. The story goes like this. Meredith
was orphaned at age 8. In the book, "Tennessee's Forgotten Children, Middle
Tennesee" I find where a Meredith CORN (possible mistaken handwriting) was
apprecianted to the C H Conner family in 1856. This connects to what we have been told,
that he lived with this Bean family. We find him on the 1860 census in the Bean household
as Meredith Cavin and race as white. Meredith married a Nancy Brown b: abt 1840. Meredith
and Nancy show up on the 1880 census in Franklin CO, TN and later they moved to Texas
where my grandfather was born. I have info after 1880, nothing before 1860. The stories we
have heard were that Meredith was made to live with the slaves and not allowed to attend
school. My thought is Meredith is the product of a !
white Cavin male and a female slave, either by a relationship or rape. Does anyone have
an idea how to go about finding Mereith's father or mother? Does anyone know if any
Cavin's in that area were slave owners? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in
advance
