Mr. Joseph, I am going to answer you here as I know we use to have several
people from the Wilkinson county, MS Cavins subscribed to this list.
First: When I sent you the lineage of John I was using an old copy of my Cavin
notes and forgot to change Ben Ellsberry's name. It was Joseph N.Ellsberry.
Guess he was just called Ben.
The information that Thomas Cavin and Mary Bruff was the parents of Moses and
William Cavin came from several people. Moses named one son Bruff. I had not
had a name for John's father until I was given that by Tommy Adams.
The information that John was the brother of Moses Cavin and William Cavin, came
from C. L. Johnson, age 90, grandson of George 'Bud' Cavin and his cousin, Dr.
Edwin Cavin. I also saw several letters and notes from others also saying they
were brothers.
I have no proof of this and am working on it now, but I have found Mr. Johnson
to be knowledgeable and accurate in his statements so I believe what he tells
me. His mother's hobby was genealogy, she didn't write it down but she passed it
on to C.L. who has a wonderful memory and has helped me on all my Wilkinson
county, MS lines.
I have posted a query on the Cavin message board in the hope of contacting
others on this line.
C.L. told me he thought our Cavins came in to MS from Sevier co. Tenn and I will
order microfilm on tax and land records to try to locate them there.
For those of you interested in the Wilkinson county people, I have just started
a Wilkinson county mailing list and I hope to get the message boards to go with
it
to subscribe send a message to
MSWILK-L-request(a)rootsweb.com
with subscribe in the body of the message
hope Les doesn't mind me announcing my list here but I know there use to be
several Wilkinson county Cavins subscribed.

Dia duit! (Irish Gaelic for "Hello!")
For you all who are new to the CAVIN-List, I am re-posting my message to
acquaint you with my CAVINs.
For you all who are not so new to the CAVIN-List, I am re-posting my
message to re-acquaint you with my CAVINs. It has changed a little, and
hopefully, it will change considerably in the not too distant future.
(Wishful thinking?)
I am seeking any information about the CAVIN family in the Gaston
Co./Iredell Co./Rowan Co./Alexander Co/Lincoln Co. areas of NC, and SC
also. Well...really just about anywhere. I have Family in the
Spartanburg, SC area and have found descendants in the Mt. Holly,
McAdenville, Stanley, Gastonia, Statesville, and Troutman areas of NC,
plus other areas. I'd love to have correspondence re. CAVIN's in these
areas or anywhere else a CAVIN might be found.
My 3rdGGF is ROBERT CAVIN, and was born around c.1775(?). He settled
near Hiddenite, Iredell Co./Alexander Co., NC late c.1700's(?)and
married the former SUSANNAH (SUSIE) HAINES. I have been told that her
Father was RALPH HAINES, but this is unconfirmed yet. Children include:
ZIZA GATES CAVIN, SALLIE CAVIN TUCKER, WILLIAM H. CAVIN and ROBERT
WINSTON CAVIN.
I think that my 3rdGGF, ROBERT CAVIN (or his Father), may have moved
from PA to VA(?) before settling in NC, but I have no proof of this,
too, as of yet.
Tapadh leibh, Sláinte! (Thank you and Best Regards! in Irish Gaelic)

I looked in the 1860-1880 census records for Hawkins Co and did not find a
listing for Sally or her mother Alice. It is possible that her father and
mother married after the 1860 census was taken. If her father died and
mother remarried prior to the 1870 census, then that might account for their
absence in the census record. I will check the marriage records to see if
there is a possibility of that.

Greetings!
I am new to this list, and am interested in Cavin/Jones families from
Rogersville, Hawkins, Tennessee. My husband's great grandmother was Sarah
(nickname Sallie) Cavin of Rogersville, Hawkins, TN. Although I don't know
her birthdate, it was approximately 1861. She married James Smith Jones in
Rogersville on 14 Dec 1881. According to research done by my husband's
aunt, her mother's name was Alice Montgomery Cavin. I don't know Sarah's
father's name.
I recently found the following 1850 census information for Tennessee.
These were the only Cavin families listed. I can't connect any of this
information to Sarah since she was born later.
The Cavins I found included -
1850 TN census
Residing in Hawkins County:
Anna Cavin, age 68, birthplace VA
John Cavin, 30, birthplace TN
Lucinda, 28 birthplace TN
Margaret 19
Nancy 14
Eli 6
John 4
Mary 2
William Cavin 28, birthplace TN
Elizabeth 27 birthplace TN
James 10
John 8
Lucinda 5
Anna 4
William 2
Residing in Blount County:
Joseph W. Cavin, 47, birthplace TN
Elizabeth 46 birthplace TN
Nancy 21
Elijah 17
Phebe 15
Moses 12
James 8
Residing in Williamson County:
Samuel Cavin, 44, birthplace NC
Elizabeth 37 birthplace TN
Thomas 20
William 18
Sarah 14
If anyone has any information that would help me connect Sarah to one of
the above families, please let me know!
Thanks much.
