Surname: CAVENDISH, MANN, MCCLINTIC, MCCOY
-------------------------
Wrong !!!! The following excerpt has led many of us astray!
(Morton's "History of Alleghany Co." p. 209-210): Alice, born 1762, married
William McClintic, who died 1786. She afterward married William Hunter
Cavendish, an Englishman, who was the first clerk of Greenbrier and later
the first clerk of Kanawha. He was a delegate from Greenbrier almost continuously
from 1790 to 1804. A son was Andrew, a lawyer of Fayette County. A great
grandson is R.M. Cavendish, a lawyer of Sutton, WVA.*
Alice Mann McClintic married William H. Cavendish, father of William Hunter
Cavendish the lawyer and first Clerk of Kanawha County, married in 1792
to Jane McCoy. William and Jane had no children.
I believe the W.H. Cavendish #1 who came from Ireland, was actually named
William Henderson Cavendish. I'm thinking the father used his initials
most of the time, and the son used his entire name on documents ...
