Gordon (Buddy) Francis Cavendish
ROANOKE, VA: Gordon (Buddy) Francis Cavendish, 74, formerly of Zanesville, Ohio died,
Monday, July 16, 2012, surrounded by his family.
Left to cherish his memory, his wife of 53 years, Irene (Hamilton) Cavendish; his twin
sister, Sandra Cavendish, of Bradenton, FL.; and his five children, Connie Snyder, of
Zanesville, Ohio, Gordon (Don) Cavendish and wife, Nikole, of Roanoke, VA., Janelle
Cavendish and husband, Denny McCarty, of Tampa, FL., Shannon Cavendish, of Roanoke, and
Sandra Frazier and husband, Larry Frazier, of Rocky Mount; 14 grandchildren; and five
great-grandchildren; also surviving Buddy are his siblings, Chuck Cavendish and wife,
Betty Cavendish, of Iowa, Dawn McMichael and husband, Art McMichael, of Bradenton, FL.,
Diane Patterson and husband, Bob Patterson, also of Bradenton; and his four-legged,
constant companion, Molly.
Gordon was preceded in death by his parents, Charles (Frank) Cavendish and Nelda Jean
Cavendish.
Gordon served in the US Army during the Korean conflict where he met his wife and married
at Ft. Eustis, VA.
They moved to Columbus, Ohio where Gordon pursued a career in retail management with Gold
Circle Dept. Stores and later moving to Zanesville as general manager of the newly built
Rink's Dept Store.
He later transferred to Big Lots as a new store set-up manager across WV, VA, and AL.
He retired from Big Lots after many years as store manager in Dothan, AL.
Upon retirement, he returned to Roanoke, VA. to enjoy his grandchildren, and loved
watching baseball (Go Detroit Tigers!).
Pastor Ronnie Morris of Cave Spring United Methodist Church officiated and burial was at
Sherwood Memorial Park, Salem, VA.
