Hi All,
I haven't sorted through all of some info I just rec'd, but thought some of
it interesting and am sending it out to see if anyone has any thoughts on
any of it. Don't consider most of this proven info!
I received a copy of a 1995 letter written by Mary Frances Bodemuller which
reads, in part, " ... states that the mother, two sisters came to America
with William CAVENDISH. I am also trying to find out the names of the two
sisters and their spouses. I think one may be Nancy married to Uriah
JENKINS, but I have no proof." Does anyone know anything about this?
Also received this info, I'm not sure of the origin, possibly "Dickie"
CAVENDISH got it from ????:
"William Hunter Henderson CAVENDISH b. 1749, Ireland, m. (1) ca 1770, Mary
McCOY, b. 1742?, (daughter of James McCOY and Jane) d. ca 1779, Greenbrier
Co., VA, m. (2) 13 jun 1780, in Greenbrier Co., VA, Jane McCOY, b. 1760?,
(daughter of James McCOY and Jane) d. ca 1800, Greenbrier Co., VA, m. (3)
10 mar 1804, in Bath Co., Alice MANN, b. 5 nov 1763, d. 11 feb 1858, Bath
Co., VA. William died 1818, Bath Co., VA. Greenbrier Tax List 1782/1783 5
horses, 12 cows. 1782 Greenbrier Co. Tax List 1782/1783 5 horses, 15 cows.
1783 family information WV Heritage Encyc suppl.6 p. 192 came to this
county in 1765 and settled one mile north of Fort Donnaly. Lived here
during the Indian troubles, and after the treaty of peace with them went to
their encampment and brought away David and Nancy Williams, white children
the Indians had held captive."
The Jane McCOY listed later as wife of WHC Jr. is given as daughter of
James McCOY, Jr. and Mary, and her birthdate is given as 1774? - so
perhaps one of the problems we have with Jane McCOY being confused is that
there were TWO Jane McCOYs who married TWO WHC???
"On account of the indisposition of John Stuart, Clerk of this Court W.H.
CAVENDISH is appointed Clerk pro tempore, 1793, March 27."
Also in this information it is stated about William Hunter CAVENDISH, Jr.
that he died march 1794, which is something I don't recall having in my info.
I'll try to get the rest of this sorted out ... tiny printing and hard for
me to read!
Also rec'd another copy of "The CAVENDISH Family" - same thing as "The
CAVENDISH Family History" pub. in Cincinnati, only this one has as its
author Hugh CAVENDISH June 1985. I know that Hugh CAVENDISH did a lot of
family research (my father has some of it on a huge scroll and I can't
access it ...) but of course we know this booklet was originally authored
way before 1985 , so still am not sure of the original author. Did anyone
have a copy of the 1944 version?
