Thanks for all of the responses!
Beverly: I agree that Mary is synonumous with Polly. I think I am on the
right track with that one.
Kathy: It is possible that these Cannons are related to my Cavenders. I will
keep my eye out for them.
And J.T.: I had knowledge of the marriage of Joseph and his second wife,
Zaraviah Aikens. I feel that they were all related but I don't know in what
manner.
I am stumped on this marriage date though. The "Early Indiana Marriages"
record at
ancestry.com to Polly Chisenhall says Jan 18, 1825, while another
records says Nancy Hardesty just the day before! Somthing is wrong
somewhere, or, there are two Richmond Cavenders from Henderson County!
I am wondering if Polly-Mary wasn't a second wife to Richmond. There are
several land parcels adjoining on another in Pike County, Illinois which is
where Richmond removed to. A death date and place for Nancy Hardesty would
be helpful, or the birthdate of the last child born to them.
So, this is what I have pieced together on these mysterious Cavenders.
According to the Davis, Iowa census, Mary was born about 1804 in NC . (One
census says VA the rest say NC and her kids say NC on all of the census). I
have found most of the Chisenhalls in Orange County, NC. about that time.
However, her kids also say that their father was born in England (one says
Scotland), with the exception of Henderson Cavender who said on two census,
KY. There were 7 people on the 1847 tax list residing in Mary's house, and
on the 1856 Iowa census, Mary said she was a resident of Iowa for 9 years.
The children of Mary were:
Martha J. (married William Watt-06/01/1845, in Pike Co., IL) and living next
door to Mary on the 1850 Iowa census with their two children Mary and
Francis M Watt.
Huldah-(married Jefferson Easley 30 Aug 1848-18years) living next door on
the other side of Mary on the 1850.
James 22y M Farmer NC
Henderson 15y M Farmer IL
Green 14y M IL
Diana 12y F TN
Dianah, my gg-grandomther said that she lived in Eden, Illinois but she was
born in Nashville, TN. All of the other children except for James were born
in IL. Eden, Illinois could be in Peoria or Randolph Counties, and there is
also an Eden Township not far from Alton, Illinois. No information on any
Cavenders at any of these Edens. It is also strange to see the children born
in different states.
I think that Richmond could very well be the father of these children and
that he might have died early in their lives. I couldn't find him on the
1840 census. I also think that there is a connection between Mary and the
Elizabeth Cavender listed in Bloomfield, Davis, Iowa. Maybe sisters-in-law.
Any ideas?
Have a good day!
