Kevin,
My mother was John Cavender's sister, Effie. He had 2 brothers Bill and Glen, and 4
sisters Mary, Effie, Janie and Christine. Although, I was a very small child I remember
him very well. In 1948-49, my father was ill and sought treatment at Baptist Hospital in
Memphis. Your grandmother and grandfather invited my parents, to live in their home in
New Albany, even though there were 3 children Marianne 8, Bill 3, Judy 2, and my brother
Carey born shortly after our arrival. We were there almost 4 years before returning to
Atlanta, but their generosity was never forgotten.
Are you the son of Tony or Wade. Tony was the same age as my brother Bill, and Wade was
my sister Ann's age. Your grandfather died at quite young by today standards. But, he
was greatly loved by his family and everyone that knew him.
His father John Robert Cavender, and his grandfather died young leaving behind widows with
children to raise. I have a picture of your great, great grandmother (Granny Cavender) as
a yound widow with 4 children surrounding her. The youngest child about 5 years old.
Your Great Grandfather died in 1933 leaving a widow and 6 children. My mother was 11, and
your grandfather was about 16. When your grandfather died in 1966, your grandmother was
the 3rd generation of Cavender women to be widowed at a young age. All 3 men died from
heart problems.
You have many Cavender cousins in Georgia since your grandfather was from a large family.
Most of them still reside in the Atlanta area.
You had a wonderful Grandfather! I will always remember him. It is good to here from my
Mississippi cousins after all these years.
Julia "Judy" Stinchcomb Belisario
