Hi,
I am searching for information on any Cavender living in Pike County, Illinois.
My gg-grandmother was Dianah Cavender, born, Nashville, TN, lived in Eden, Illinois
(Peoria County?), and married in Davis County, Iowa.
On the 1850 Davis, Iowa Census it shows:
1850 Iowa Census Bloomfield Twp, Davis Co, IA Res#/Fam#: 65/65 Surname: Cavender
Mary 44y F NC, James 22y M Famer M ?, Henderson 15y M Farmer IL , Green 14y M IL , Diana
12y F TN
Also:
Bloomfield Twp, Davis Co, IA Res#/Fam#: 83/83
Surname: Cavander, Elizabeth 43y F OH?-Wife of John Cavender, deceased, Sarah 22y F IL-
Joseph 21y M Farmer IA, James 15y M Farmer IL
I also found land records in Pike for Elizabeth and children, so they also removed to
Davis, Iowa. I then found this on the 1856:
Iowa Census-1856 Mary Cavender, 52, born Virginia, 9 years in Iowa; Green, age 19, farmer,
born Illinois; Mary Watt, 8, born Iowa; Francis M., male, 5, born Iowa.
Mary Watt and Francis M. weren't the elder Mary's children. They were the children
of Martha Jane Cavender-Watt and William Watt. This is enough for me to tie my family in
with the Cavenders of Pike County. I suspicion that my line came from Christian County or
Henderson County,Kentucky. Green and Henderson were born in Illinois but I don't know
where. There is a Thomas Cavender marriage in Peoria County to a Catherine Fox. He was 61
when he married. I wonder if Thomas was married to Mary at one point and divorced and she
took the children and moved. shot in the dark on that one.
Anything that may help me sort these Cavenders out will be greatly appreciated!
