I have James Alexander Cavender born 1867 in Texas. Died 1949 in Eastland County, Texas.
Nimrod Cem., Nimrod, Eastland Co., Texas. He married Mittie Rebecca Swinney before 1915.
She was born 1889 in Texas and died 1923 in Eastland County, Texas. Nimrod Cem., Nimrod,
Eastland Co., Texas. He married Cora Luttrell with birth listed as about 1867. I have no
other info regarding her.James Alexander Cavender's parents: William Cavender born
abt 1840 North Carolina. He married Martha Savannah Howard abt 1866 in Texas. She was born
1840 Alabama. First marriage to John Maney Honey, Sr. January 15, 1856. Father to her 4
children. He died. Second marriage to Jacob Mitchell abt 1864. Third marriage to William
Cavender abt 1866 in Cherokee County, Texas. He was a widow, who had a son James Alexander
Cavender. They divorced abt 1880 in Bosque Co., Texas. Children:

The story of John Sr.'s death: at the hands of the Home Guard (Texas) who killed him
for desertion when he left the Confederate Army to see about feeding his starving family.
He had gotten a letter from Martha saying she and the babies were starving; he returned
home to get them back on their feet before he returned to the War.

Remarks: none. In the Records of all Confederate Soldiers and The Roster of Confederate
Soldiers, a John M. Honey from Texas is listed as having served in the 22nd Texas Infantry
Battalion, Company B. The battalion is listed as serving solely in the Texas, Arkansas,
Louisiana Districts. Major engagements where the Red River Campaign and Calcasieu.
There is also a record of a John Honey in The Roster of Confederate Soldiers Vol. VIII. He
is listed as having served in the 20th Texas Infantry Battalion Company D along with
Martin Van Buren Honey, Thomas Honey, Jefferson Thomas Honey. Major engagement was at
Galveston with the failed Union invasion. Some of the officers were Lt. Col. Leonard
Abercrombie, Col. Henry Elmore and Major Robert E. Bell.
In 2000, a memory marker was erected at Boone Cemetery in Eustace, Henderson Co., Texas,
for John and wife Martha. Though spelled HONEY, it is pronounced O'NEAY. Descendents
claimed name HONEA, pronounced O'NEAH.
