I am also researching the family of Ezekial Cavender, who appears to be from Westmoreland
Co VA. Cavenders believed to be his children appear at least briefly in Rowan Co NC, and
an Ezekiel Cavender appears in the 1800 Pendleton Dist SC census, with Clemeth Cavender
and James Cavender nearby; also Catherine (Cavender) and Elijah Cornwell. This might be
the same Ezekiel (the father) but it's possible this Ezekiel may be a brother of
Clemeth and James.
A Joseph Cavender is living in the Hog Mtn District of (later) Gwinnett Co GA in 1804. He
and his wife appear in the 1820 census with 7 daughters and 3 sons. By 1830 the family
is in Fayette Co GA and in 1840 a Joseph Cavender is in Maury Co TN where he died abt
1858.
There is also a Joseph Cavender, Rev War soldier from VA (Sgt) who received 400 acres
bounty land grant on 18 Aug 1783; a James Cave, Pvt from VA, who received 100 acres on 6
Dec 1783; a John Caves, Pvt from Md, who received 50 acres (date not given) -- this in
Bockstruck's "Revolutionary War Bounty Land Grants Awarded By State
Governments," page 94. Since they were in the VA army, that bounty land is probably
in KY.
The DAR Patriot Index vol I (Centennial Edition, 1990) lists a Joseph Cavender, b ca 1760
VA d 13 Aug 1826 KY (wife's name not known). He is listed as Ordl Sgt (Orderly Sgt)
for VA and received a pension. These pension papers could have important information.
The DAR application papers may have since been updated with the wife's name.
The DAR Patriot Index also recognizes 8 Cave's for military or patriot service (most
for service for VA): Belfield, Benjamin, Elizabeth (Craig) Cave, wife of Richard; two
John Cave's, Richard, Thomas, and William.
Is there a possibility we're researching different lines of the same Cavender family?
My line is through Clemeth Cavender, who settled in GA with several brothers and sisters.
To the best of my knowledge, these Cavenders believed to be descended from Ezekiel went
from VA to SC to GA, but not to KY. I'd be very happy to share what information I
have so far.
I have some information on these Cavenders and related families they married into, but
have not researched and updated this information in a couple of years. The Jane Cavender
I have appears to be born later than the one you mentioned.
I have no information on Ezekiel Cavender's wife but have been looking at the Cave
family in relation to my Glenn family research. The Glenns were evidentally from early
Albemarle Co VA; brothers Thomas and David were early surveyors into (now) West Virginia
area and KY. Thomas Glenn appears to be related by marriage to the Cave family.
Good luck with your research and I look forward to hearing from you.
