I am also researching the family of Ezekial Cavender, who appears to be
from Westmoreland Co VA. Cavenders believed to be his children appear at
least briefly in Rowan Co NC, and an Ezekiel Cavender appears in the 1800
Pendleton Dist SC census, with Clemeth Cavender and James Cavender nearby; also
Catherine (Cavender) and Elijah Cornwell. This might be the same Ezekiel (the
father) but it's possible this Ezekiel may be a brother of Clemeth and James.
Is there a possibility we're researching different lines of the same
Cavender family? My line is through Clemeth Cavender, who settled in GA with
several brothers and sisters. To the best of my knowledge, these Cavenders
believed to be descended from Ezekiel went from VA to SC to GA, but not to KY. I'd
be very happy to share what information I have so far.
Ezekiel Cavendar was born ca. 1738-1845 and died after 1804 in GA. He
settled in Westmoreland Co., VA about 1770.
Does anyone know who he married? According to the "Stallard Connection",
Elizabeth Ann Stallard married a Mr. Cavender. Was her husband Ezekiel
Cavender?
Children:
1. (my ancestor) Catherine was born 1764 in Maryland (according to the
census, which has the state as MA, but I believe that is Maryland and not
Massachusetts). She married Elijah Cornwell 1783 in Dinwiddie Co., VA, and moved to
Georgia. They both died in Jasper Co., GA. Elijah Cornwell was born about
1760 in VA. He served as a Private in VA in the Revolutionary War.
He is approved as one of my Revolutionary ancestors by the DAR.
2. Clemeth was born 1774 in Virginia and died 1836 in GA. He married
Rebecca Dedmon.
3. James M. was born about 1776 in VA. --- He supposedly married Susannah
Kates. Does anyone know when and where he died???
4. George was born about 1778 in VA -- does anyone know anything about him?
5. Joseph was born about 1778 in VA. He supposedly married Miriam Henry,
and died in TN in 1858.
6. There may have also been a daughter Barbara born about 1780. Does
anyone know anything about her?
Thanks,
Phyllis in GA
I have been reading the messages about Ezekiel Cavender with interest. I
posted the following previously, but will repost in the hope that someone
will know this James Cavender.
James Cavender Sr wrote his will on the 16th of October 1788. It was proved
on 2 October 1792 in Sussex DE. Heirs include sons Thomas, Charles, Henry
and David and daughter, Mary Cannon. Witnesses include George and Newton
Cannon and Robert Juett.
Curiously Sons Thomas, Charles and Henry received but one shilling. It
appears that David and Mary inherited the bulk of the estate.
Hope this helps someone. If some one should happen to have further
information on Mary (Cavender) Cannon, I would love to hear from them.
