Court setting for purpose of Probate purposes met at Pleasanton on Monday, September 29th
, 1862. Present E.Obrion, Chief Justice. It was ordered by the court that an appraisal
of the Estate of I. C. Cavender , deceased, be approved and recorded.. The State of
Texas} April Term, 1861 To the honorable A. C. Fairman Chief Judge of the County of
Atascosa, Probate Court of Atascosa County in the same state comes Susan A. Cavender wife
of the late Isaac Cavender, deceased, and upon oath represents that at the time of
marriage of this informant and said I. Cavender having no separate property whatsoever
but marriage the coverture of the a fore said parties they accumulated considerable
community property to wit: The value of each separate article appraised and placed
opposite each other.
Isaac owned real estate valued at $1,500.00 and personal property valued at $3,500.00.
Isaac and his family used several different cattle brands which are still on record at
Atascosa County courthouse, page 19 of the cattle brand book. Examples are CI and IC.
These brands are discussed in the estate of Susan Ann Cavender, dated June 2, 1874. Aaron
Rambie, Executor.
Isaac Cavender died October 15, 1860 in Atascosa county and is buried at the Poteet
Cemetery, in Poteet, Texas. Poteet is located about eight miles north and west of
Pleasanton. Isaac's Estate included:
150 acres of homestead land... $400.00
29 head ofhorses 580.00
100 head of stock cattle 500.00
75 head of hogs 75.00
36 head of sheep 108.70
2 yoke of oxen 60.00
Estate valued at $ 1,723.00
Debts totaled 112.52
Number 104 page, 43
Heirs included George Washington Cavender, Green R. Cavender, Thomas Jefferson Cavender,
Catherine S. Cavender, Frances S. Cavender, John F. Cavender, Isaac H. Cavender and Susan
A. Cavender.
On October 19, 1861, Comanche Indians made one of the most daring and extensive raids ever
known in Frio and Atascosa counties. They were in large force and scattered all over the
two counties. Killed 14, injured many more and carried off many horses. Norval Kennard
was in the battle and wounded in the shoulder. James Winters, a neighbor, was killed.
The book, " Texas Indian Fighters" covers the battle in detail.
On June 28, 1862 George W. Cavender and Thomas J. Cavender relinquished all rights and
claims to the estate of their father, Isaac, C. Cavender. They receive $316.00 from
Susan A. Cavender, their step mother. Deed No. 598, Town of Pleasanton, Atascosa County,
State of Texas.
