J. T. Cavender, a resident of Springboro, Ohio, died Sept. 14, at Hospital of Dayton in
Ohio. He was 82.
Memorial services will be Sept. 24, at 3 p.m., at the Fairmont Presbyterian Church in
Kettering, Ohio, with Drs. Robert Wade and David Howley officiating. The Anderson Funeral
Home in Springboro, Ohio is in charge of arrangements. Survivors include his wife,
Marjorie Ann (Yelton) Cavender; a son, Chris Cavender of Germantown; and two grandsons.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Houston and Ruby (Hannah) Cavender. Born Nov. 2,
1924 in Water Valley, he was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in World War II. He was a
1950 graduate of the University of Kentucky, and a member of the Phi Sigma Kappa
fraternity.
A 1955 graduate of Chase Law School in Cincinnati, he was a member of the Fairmont
Presbyterian Church, served on the Kettering Planning Commission, and served as a
councilman from 1969 to 1973. In 1966, he served as general chairman of the Holiday at
Home, past president of Sycamore Creek Country Club, and was the author of a book on the
Cavender history. He was a retired Senior Patent attorney with NCR Corporation, and
received a Lifetime Achievement Award in June for his contribution to the field of
Intellectual Properties.
