MORRISVILLE, VT. - There will be funeral services on Friday, Feb. 12, 2010, at 1 p.m. at
the Thompson Funeral Home, 4221 Market St. in Boardman, Ohio for Grant Lee Cavender, 85,
formerly of Poland, Ohio who died Friday morning, Feb. 5, 2010, at The Manor Nursing Home
in Morrisville, Vermont.
He was born March 14, 1924 in Los Angeles, California the son of the late Kelley L. and
Sara Coldren Cavender.
Grant moved to Morrisville in May of 2008 and previously lived in Poland, Berea, and
Warren, Ohio and Kitanning, Pa.
Grant graduated from the Carnegie Institute of Technology in 1945 and was a member of the
Delta Upilson Fraternity.
He was an electrical engineer and worked for the M & W Electric Manufacturing Company
in East Palestine for 16 years, retiring in 1989. He previously worked for the Fanner
Manufacturing Company in Cleveland, Ohio for 17 years, as well as Packard Electric in
Warren, Ohio.
Grant was a member of the Tyrian Lodge No. 644 F.& A.M. in New Kensington, Pa., a 32nd
Degree Mason, a shriner with the Syria Temple in Pittsburgh and a member of the
Pennsylvania Consistory in Pittsburgh.
Besides his parents, Grant was preceded in death by his wife, the former Phyllis R.
Lowrie, whom he married on Oct. 22, 1949, and died on April 9, 1979.
Grant is survived by his children, daughter Dr. Patricia Cavender and husband Dr. Lawrence
White of Princeton Junction, N.J.; son Thomas Cavender and wife Laura of Raleigh, N.C. and
son Jeffrey Cavender and wife Karen of Waterbury Center, Vt.; and eight grandchildren,
Katherine Beykirch and husband Nick, Andrew White, Daniel White, Ryan Cavender, Megan
Lambert and husband Josh, Shannon Cavender, Nina Cavender, and Grace Cavender. He is also
survived by his sister-in-law, Priscilla Love and nieces, Pamela Love and Jill Thompson
and husband Randy.
Family and friends may call on Friday, Feb. 12, from noon to 1 p.m. at the Thompson
Funeral Home in Boardman, Ohio.
The family requests that material tributes take the form of contributions to the Western
Reserve Historical Society, 10825 East Blvd., Cleveland, Ohio 44106, in memory of Grant L.
Cavender.
