Subject: Susan Nancy Cave
Hello,
I don't know if I've contacted you before. I have hit a brick wall regarding my
ancestors, John Cave and his wife Elizabeth from Page County. I know in the 1850 census
there are two John Cave's with wives Elizabeth. My ancestor Susan Nancy Cave descends
from and was living with the ones that didn't have Aleshires living with them. In the
1850 census it shows John Cave and his wife Elizabeth, with them is Nancy and five of her
children Ellen, Mary, James M., Elizabeth and Susan. Their name is left as Cave but
should read Berry. In the 1860 census Nancy is listed as Berry living with Elizabeth
Cave, no John. Three additional children, Adaline, Newman and John W. are living with
her. I have documented my line as follows:
James Wesley Berry married Susan Nancy Cave in Page County in 1833. This is documented
from a copy of the marriage record. It lists Nancy's parents as John Cave and
Elizabeth. Wesley's parents aren't listed.
I can document the following children for Nancy and Wesley:
Frances Edna m. Francis Marion Cave in Page County in 1854. The marriage record lists her
parents as Wesley and Nancy Berry. His as Noah and Sally J. Cave.
Ellen Narcissa Berry m. William Shelton Harris in Page County in 1866. The marriage
record lists her parents as Wesley and Nancy. Plus 1850 census for Page County
Mary E. Berry and Noah A. Meadows in Rockingham County 1867, lists her parents as Wesley
and Nancy. Plus 1850 census for Page County.
James M. Berry and Lucy Harris (daughter of William, above) in Rockingham County 1868.
Lists his parents as Wesley and Nancy, plus 1850 census, plus his death record lists
parents as James W. Berry and Susan N. Cave.
Elizabeth F. Berry - 1850 census
Susan Berry - 1850 census
Adaline Berry 1860 census
Newman Berry - 1860 census
John W. Berry 1860 census and death records lists parents as James and Susan.
I can document James Wesley Berry's parents as Anthony Berry and Margaret Ann Ward
through her will dated 1856 in Page County in which she mentions her granddaughter Frances
Edna, wife of Francis Marion Cave.
Another researcher has told me that Susan Nancy Cave and Noah Cave, father of above
Francis Marion are siblings. Does any of this match anything you have and would you
happen to know for sure the parents of Susan Nancy?
