The history and antiquities of the town and minster of Beverley
1324/1325:
At this time, Nicholas CAVE and Christiana his wife, of Beverley, possessed
a messuage, a wind-mill, and eight oxgangs of land in Brantyngham and North
Cave; a house, with twelve oxgangs of land, in the parish of Middleton; and a
substantial messuage, with ten oxgangs of land, in Beverley and Molescroft.
(Oxgang: the amount of land tillable by one ox in a plowing season. This could
vary from village to village, but was typically around 15 acres.)
