Iowa also. I have a picture of their gravestone somewhere also.
I know a little more about the Cave line than the Sturdevant.
Holsea (or Halsea) Cave was born in England and came to America about
1831-32. We think he died in Mina Corners. Samuel Cave was born in 1811 in
Reading, Berkshire, England and died in Waverly, Iowa on 25 Dec 1873. He moved
to Iowa in 1854. My cousin Howard Cave Mikesell got some information from
England I'm sure he would share with you on Holsea. I'll get his email address
for you. Halsea married Mary Titchener. Maybe Howard will send you a copy
of his "Descendants of Halsea Cave" It is pretty complete!
Well, this is a start. I'll get back with you another time.
We will get back to the Sturdevant line again. Thanks for the long
information. I will compare it with what I have. I am trying to get the
actual proofs of the Studevants so I can file my application to Colonial
Dames. I already have DAR Supplements on Caleb and James Sr. Sturdevant.
Are you a member of DAR or are you interested. I would be glad to help
you complete your application. Let me know. Thanks again. Darla

Dear Marian,
The only bit of information I have for you is Samuel CAVE ch 21/10/1810 St. Mary, Reading,
Berkshire
James CAVE ch 5/6/1812 St. Mary, Reading, Berkshire.
I was unable to open either attachment you sent - one said: unexpected data was
encountered and the other told me there was a problem with my modem, so that was not much
help.
The only other thing I could find for you was as far as I could see it was definitely a
James Madison STURDEVANT, b 5.5.1820 Eliasburg Jefferson, NY and that he married Philena
Elizabeth Hart 18/12/1841
I'm not sure whether any of this will help you or not.
Cheers for now, Lalah Simpson.

Samuel Cave died at his residence on the 25th of December,
1873. He was
born in Reading, Berkshire, England in the year 1811; came to the United
States when twenty one years old, to Iowa in 1854. He was one of the
oldest and most respected citizens; a genial, steadfast, christian
friend. One who has know him long and well says, "Mr. Cave was a
faultless man, a sincere, cheerful and unswerving christian." Such a
sentiment is honorable to the dead.......hororable to the living. I
have only to state this, and it merits the hearty response of all who
knew him....may the mantle of the man who was neighbor to all and a
patient christian fall on his sons; may his neighbors come forward and
fill the broken ranks; and the life so honorable among men will not have
been in vain.

Dear Marian,
Just a brief reply, with more to follow as time permits. When we were in Waverly last
weekend, we met Kathy (Cave) Kahler, who is a daughter of Earl Cave and descendant of
Samuel and Emeline (Sturdevant) Cave. She also introduced us to her children and
grandchildren. All the descendants in Waverly are extremely interested in participating in
the "Ira Sturdevant house" project, and we hope others, like yourself, who live
elsewhere will be equally supportive. I will be happy to exchange family history with
everyone but, frankly, at the present moment, Kathy and I are devoting all our spare time,
energy, and money to restoring Ira's house. We hope you and others will also
contribute through the IHPA.
Please stay in contact, and watch for updates.
Sincerely,
Rick and Kathy Sturdevant
