"Murder in Clark County"
A horrible and deplorable homicide occurred in Clark county near Shuburs [Shubuta], day
before yesterday. The victim was a man by the name of Caves, quite a young man, but
married and having a family and keeping house.
He was entirely respectable and of excellent family, the nephew of Rev. M. Gilmore, a
Methodist preacher stationed at Marion, we believe at this time.
A widowed aunt whose maiden name was Gilmore, well stricken in years, had her home in his
family. The way we hear it, she is, probably and always has been a woman of violent
temper, subject fits of uncontrollable anger.
On the day of the terrible and lamentable affair she appears to have fallen into a
desperate fit of anger with Cave’s young wife and inflicting personal violence on her. The
young man happened to be near enough to witness the difficulty and happened to the scene,
presumable to stop it. His aunt turned upon him and plunged a knife to his heart. He lived
about fifteen minutes.

NOTE: I think the murdered young man might be one of the sons of JAMES WATSON CAVE and
MARY A. GILMORE ... James is the son of JOHN CAVE, JR. and LUCINDA (LUCY) CAUSEY
