The Architectural History of Selby Abbey
pg 384: The two slabs of Abbots William Pygot (1407-1429) and John CAVE
(1429-1436) lay in the middle of the choir till 1890; they are now in the north
aisle, in the third bay from the east. The inscriptions are now almost illegible,
as the letters are in great part covered up with cement. They are given here
from Mr. Morrell's readings.
"Hic jacet Johannes Cave quondam abbas istius Monasterii qui obiit nono die
mensis Junii, a.d. m. cccc, xxxvi, cuius anime propicietux Deus. Amen."
