AUTOGRAPH LETTER SIGNED
Two Civil War letters, written in ink, with covers from Emanuel CAVE
of the 69th Ohio Volunteers. Cave addresses mail to his wife in
Circleville, OH. The first letter, dated 21 August 1864, is 2pp. in length
and measures 5" x 8". Partially reads: ".Every thing is going on nice
here, no heavy fighting of late expect to be in Atlanta soon." Nice
condition, very legible.
The second letter is four-pages in length. "near Atlanta. There has been
some very hard fighting within the last few days, but fortunately, for us,
our regiment was not engaged. The rebels are very strongly intrenched,
and it is thought have been heavily reinforced, if which be the case, the
only way of getting them out will be by siege. We have had no casualties
in our Company since I last wrote. There is some sickness, which is
mostly induced by exposure and exhaustion."
Very clean. - MB $1,500
