Good Morning John,
Another man sent me your "url" to your web page ,in answer to a letter I sent
him from the CAVE-L mailing list.
I read through your web page and was just in awe of the amount of work you
have done, and then saw the name-I had just about given up as ever
seeing-anywhere!
My great great grandfather, Ashley Haywood Dodd married to (Nancy8) CAVE? I
had him married to a LUCY CAVE (who you have listed as the mother of Nancy).
I printed out the web listing and it is on page 13 of 19.
I wrote a immediate thank you to the man who sent me the url and he said that
I should thank you, instead.
He is right!
I really do thank you-
-I am just still working with goosebumps and my first cousins who are looking
for these familys with me --we have just spent our childrens inheiritance on
the telephone--all weekend talking about this list of yours!
I live in Southern CAlifornia (yorba linda) and I grew up in the panhandle of
TExas. but never have been to Milam co. However, I have spent months surfing
there and looking for leads to these people. I did locate a cousin who still
lives there and he is really not interested in this genealogy, but has tried
to help some. I have not gone there and looked in the usual places-but have
only tried to find info on the web. Planning a trip for next summer.
We only had the names: Ashley Haywood DODD and a date of approx 1820 and the
name of Lucy CAVE DODD and a date of approx 1820. I am not sure how we
became so mixed up with the names--but since we have had no documentation--it
is only a "family legend" with us at this point.
We had the son of these two people as "Lewis Taylor DODD born 31 August 1843
and died, Sept 1, 1908 jn Milam Co. Tx. He married VICTORIA ASENATH
(COLLINS) DODD in November (we think 1870). We think she died in HOLLIS ,
OKLA. Harmon co. in Sept. 1920. We are sure he (Lewis taylor dodd) is
buried in the now vanished community of Sand Grove, TX. I do not have any
information on the other CAVE people that you mention that are buried there?
I have only found two CAVE graves listed on a cemetery record on the web
site of :
<
http://www.alpha.1net/~unc/j/>JJames David Walker(a Milam co. genealogist
and researcher)
The children of my great grandparents, LEWIS TAYLOR DODD AND VICTORIA ASENATH
COLLINS DODD were:
JAMES ASHLEY DODD, born 29 Dec. 1872
JOHN THOMAS DODD , born 26 Jan. 1876
CHARLES MADISON DODD, born 25 Feb. 1879
MARTHA AGNES DODD LOWRIE, born 3, Aug. 1881
LIZA ELIZABETH DODD KITE, born 27 feb. 1884 (jUDY GRIMES , GRAN)
INFANT SON, DODD 1886
ROXIE MAY DODD BRYANT,born 1887
HENRY EDWARD DODD,born 1890
DANIEL WEBSTER DODD,born 4 April 1892
DAVID CLINTON DODD, born July 20, 1896
Finding the name of ASHLEY HAYWOOD DODD AND LUCY CAVE DODD on your web
site-still has me reeling. Of course, what I am thinking now--is can you
tell me where you found these people? Do you have a census or marriage
certificate that shows ashley married to a Nancy CAVE? Do you have any
documentation that shows Lucy CAVE married to John CAVE? Do you have a
sibling list for ashley haywood and Nancy CAVE DODD--children? We don't
mean to be "grabby" <grin> but we are just so full of questions?
We have NO documentation--only the "family legend" of the names. We are
willing to change our names on the charts -but need to follow your trail and
locate the documentation. Can you give us the trail or the documentation.?
We will of course provide you any money needed for copies or Postage or any
thing needed that we can help with.
I have spent over 30 years on genealogy in the dusty library--way--and only
about a year on this pc. I have just in the last year started on this
DODD/KITE/ CAVE/POUNDS/ COLLINS lines. Had no idea that the CAVE family was
so researched!
I am VERY impressed with your web page and the amount of work you have done.
I have searched long and hard and appreciate fully the time and effort
required to compile the data that you have so freely published in your web
page.
We THANK YOU-THANK YOU, thank you-and look forward to your reply.
sincerely, Judith lavonia hugg Grimes,(judy grimes),

How can we help you? It is a fact that we have no CAVE information-but are
willing to aid you in anything that we can.
