1817: "Ordered by the Court that the probit of the Last Will & Testament
of John Smith deceased be taken and that bond and security in the sum of
two thousand dollars and that Hannah Smith and David Smith, the Executors,
be sworn."
Orphans Court held in Clarke County, Alabama; Oct 7, 1833: Receipts
of Edward Smith, guardian of Mariah and Obadiah Smith, minor heirs of John
Smith deceased.
Jan 6, 1845: Estate of John Smith deceased. Kindrick Ford, Edward
Smith, Thomas Cox, William H. Rabon, Executors. Terrell Powers, Judge.
Kindrick Ford appointed Administrator.
Jan 10, 1845: Inventory & Appraisement of the personal and real
property of the Estate of John Smith deceased. Slaves: Dice, Tom, Jinny &
Child, Levi, Washington, Ephraim, Jemy, Charles. (An itemized inventory of
the estate was recorded)
Feb 4, 1845: Appraisers - John Chapman, Elijah Pugh, Stephen B. Pugh,
Giles Chapman. Estate of John Smith deceased. Appraisement made at the
time of the death of his widow, Hannah Smith.
March 7, 1845: Inventory of the sale of the Estate of John Smith
deceased.
Aug 11, 1845: Estate of John Smith deceased. Petition to sell real
estate - SE1/4, S31, T9, R3E containing 160 acres, more or less. Shares:
Edward Smith, John Smith, Obadiah Smith, David Smith, Alexander Smith,
Thomas Cox in right of his wife Sarah, Brensell B. Pugh in right of his
wife Barbary, William H. Raibon in right of his wife Mariah, Kindrick Ford
in right of his wife Hannah, James Scott in right of his wife Sarah;
formerly Sarah Geore (George ?) & William H. Geore in right of his two
infant children in right of their mother deceased Mariah Geore, formerly
Mariah George.
Alexander Smith and Brensell B. Pugh were listed as living in Pike
County, AL
Final Settlement: Nov 19, 1846

NOTE:Re the entry of August 11, 1845, "Brensell" B. Pugh should read
"Burrell" B. Pugh, my g-g-grandfather, who married Barbary C. Smith in
Clarke County in 1823, at that time living in Conecuh County, but moved
to Pike County about 1836. Burrell B. Pugh was apparently not related to
the prominent Pugh family already in Clarke County at that time.
