Former County Sheriff Dies
Former Garvin County Sheriff Clark CAVES, 67, died Tuesday,
Dec. 5 in the Pauls Valley General Hospital. Funeral services
will be Thursday Dec 7 at 2pm in the Stufflebean Funeral Home.
Interment will be in the Mount Olivet Cemetery.
A resident of Pauls Valley, Caves was born Feb 11, 1911 in
Oklahoma. He served three terms as the sheriff for Garvin County
and 10 years as a deputy sheriff. He was a member of the
Anerican Legion and 100F. Caves was also a Mason and a
veteran of World War II.
He had lived in Pauls Valley for the past 31 years. Survivors are
his wife, Mrs. Zella Caves, Pauls Valley; six sons, H.A. Caves,
Norman, Clint Caves, Robert Lee, Tex., Jimmy Caves Oklahoma
City, Phillip, Terry and Joe Caves, all of Pauls Valley; one brother,
Paul Caves, Stigler; six grandchildren.
Submitter's Note: Clark Caves died in 1978. I do not know what
newspaper this was printed in, it was clipped out of the paper and
sent to my grandfather Bert Caves.

JAMES A. CAVES
(Died November 9, 2000)
PIGGOTTS CROSSING - James A. Caves, 10(?), a resident of the
Piggotts Crossing community, died today in his home.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Creel Caves of Piggotts Crossing;
two sons, Jimmy Caves of Bogalusa, and Jacie Caves and his wife,
Sherry of Walker, LA; a daughter, LaDonna Smotherman and her
husband, Kenny of Varnado; two brothers, Billy Joe Caves of
McComb, MS, and Howard Caves of Albany, LA; a sister,
Mary Alice Childs of Varnado; and two granddaughters, Brittney
and Allison Caves of Walker, LA.
Visitation will be today at Brown-McGehee Funeral Home from
5-10 p.m. and will continue tomorrow from 8 a.m. until time of
service, to be conducted from the funeral home chapel at 2 p.m.
The Rev. Wesley Quave will officiate. Burial will be in Haw Pond
Cemetery at Stateline, MS. Brown-McGhee Funeral Home is in
charge of arrangements.

Services for Mrs. Mattie Lou CAVES, 88, of Sallisaw are
scheduled for Monday, Jan. 28, at 11 a.m. in the Agent
Chapel with the Rev. Billy Ray Jackson officiating. Burial
will follow in the Copeland Cemetery, south of Sallisaw,
under the direction of Agent Funeral Home. Mrs. CAVES
was born to J.D. ATKERSON and Susan Alice ATKERSON
on March 6, 1896, in Jackson County, Ala. She died
Thursday, Jan. 24, in Sallisaw.
