Purdon man hurt in major accident
By Bob Belcher
A Purdon man was seriously injured Thursday in an accident involving a small pick-up and
an 18-wheeler hauling a mobile home. The accident occurred shortly after 3 p.m. Thursday
on FM 744, approximately six miles east of Corsicana.
Bobby Cave, 54, of Purdon was traveling west on FM 744 in his pick-up truck approaching a
narrow bridge just west of FM 1126. The 18-wheeler, driven by John Thibodeaux, 52, of
Chandler, was hauling part of a double-wide mobile home heading east on FM 744. Thibodeaux
is a driver for Rolling Homes Transit Company of Tyler.
The two vehicles collided at about the mid-point of the bridge, pinning Cave's pick-up
against the guard rail. The 18-wheeler dragged the pick-up the rest of the length of the
bridge, coming to a rest at the end of the guard rail.
Cave was pinned inside the truck, but was responsive. Emergency crews from the Corsicana
and Blooming Grove Fire Department worked to extricate Cave, and he was taken by air
ambulance to Parkland Hospital in Dallas. The driver of the 18-wheeler was not hurt in the
accident.
Trooper Matt McGinnis of the Texas Department of Public Safety is investigating the
accident. The Navarro County Sheriff's Department also assisted with traffic control
as FM 744 was shut down for over an hour and a half due to the accident.
