I traced my family back to John Cave born c1803 Stanton under Bardon who is the son of
Varney Cave born c1785 Stanton. There is no solid evidence of this but John named a son
Varney so it is a safe assumption.
An Obadiah Cave was buried in 1830 Thornton age 81 and Mary Cave 1827 Thornton age 84.
Again I am assuming these are Varney's parents because Varney had descendants named
Obadiah Cave and it is an unusual name. According to the IGI, the couple had several other
children christened in Thornton around the same time Varney was born, as well as one in
Appleby Magna in 1769.
I am wondering if anyone knows who Obadiah's parents were, with the hint of a possible
Appleby Magna origin? I am also wondering if there is a link to the Cave-Browne-Cave
Baronets because there was a Verney Cave who was the 4th Baronet and lived from 1705-1734.
His brother was Thomas Cave, the 5th Baronet who lived from 1712-1778. The Baronetage
eventually went to their second cousins who coincidentally ended up in Stretton en le
Field which is right near Appleby Magna.
