Hello Julia,
Glad to have your posting and happy to see you listed the URL for your great
website on CAVE! Here is another person that has done lots of researching on
the VA Cave families, especially in Madison and Page counties.
This is interesting about the CAVE Society in England thinking our ancestor
is John not Joseph. More clues to the puzzles on those early CAVE men and
ladies that seem to hide from us.
We are all open to new information.
I do want to say one word of caution about their records. I rec'd a letter
from one of the researchers in the CAVE Family History Society in early
June. I will quote: "I have some material on record from one of our American
members and from this data, I can offer odd threads that might be of
interest to you. I am enclosing a pedigree headed by Benjamin and Nancy
Gallihue." She goes on to say, " It is very difficult when I cannot access
the actual record and when there are several individuals of the same name
alive in the same part of the world." (How True!)
She enclosed a pedigree of sorts that has my Benjamin married to two women.
At one time another researcher had him married to three at the same time; in
three states running back and forth fathering kids galore! :)
I had no idea the England CAVE Family History Society was collecting our
CAVE data. I have since written and told her I would be sending updated
charts to correct these three Benjamins and the families they belong to.
Julia and Jim have both made some corrections for me already on my records.
I welcome this help!
Finding cousins that have information we dont, certainly helps us all get
the records as square as possible. With team work, maybe we can get all
these John, Thomas, Bens, etc. where they belong one day.
Sue Ellen
Below is a Cave Family record, dated 25 Oct 1892. I have found no connection
to my line; but perhaps it will help someone. I found this many years ago,

Hello All!
I'm sorry I'm so late in getting in touch, but we have had a death in the family and I'm just getting caught up with my "mail".
I belong to the same Cave's as Sue - my ancestor Jonas was a brother to her Benjamin. In getting in touch with the Cave Family History Society in England though, I was informed that Jonas and Benjamin's grandfather was John Cave (of Benjamin the Burgess) and not Joseph. It makes sense to me as in all my research in Madison Co., I have found no records of a Joseph, but have found John.
You can see all my Cave family at my Family Treemaker site:

Julia
Jim, is the following the your ancestor? Or did I mess up?
I have Abner Vabe CAVE [son of William F. CAVE and Jeriah DAVIS]
b 1784 Madison Co., VA; 1870 Hart Co., KY;
married 8 Jan 1803 Orange Co., VA to Elizabeth SIMS;
married #2 Elizabeth Booton
>Judy, re your statement "Anna was the daughter of John CAVE and Frances
> SNOW" --can you tell me any more as to your source for Frances Snow as John's
> wife?
Jim, perhaps I should not have stated that it was a fact, rather thought to
be, that Frances SNOW was Anna's mother as I do not have documentation for
this, other than the following statement from a researcher who is a
descendant of Bartlett and Jennie SNOW., who stated," Anna's father was John
CAVE, who was a brother to Bartlett CAVE. Anna' mother was Frances SNOW,
sister to Jane [Jennie SNOW], daughters of Frost & SNOW, sr b 1730 Albemarle
Co., VA; died 1813 Surry Co., NC & Elizabeth JOHNSON b abt 1738 Albemarle
Co., VA ; died 1822 Surry Co., NC." This researcher then goes on to state
that " Anna was a double cousin to my [the researcher's] GGgrandfather John
S. CAVE, who was one of six men executed in Missouri by Union troops for
helping Quantrill's Raiders during the Civil War.

Judy, thanks for posting your CAVE query. I knew Jim Cave would come to
your recuse on these lines. He has a large CAVE database of his own, and
knows where to tell us to LOOK!
Thanks Jim. And thanks for sharing Jim Farmers URL with us! Looks like he
has done quite a bit of researching too.
Sue Ellen
Lynna, While I don't agree with all it says re early Cave generations, Jim
Farmer's web page seems to have some documentation on the line you are
looking for on the following web page:

Jane; thanks for the info. I really haven't done a whole lot of
research on the Caves, so I didn't have this. I'll list what I do have
in case anything else rings a bell.
The Anna Cave and James H. Tucker that I have had 8 children. One was
Frances Burden Tucker, Born 3-14-1814. She married William Dealy, Born
3-17-1817. One of their daughters was Nancy Jane Elizabeth, Born
1-20-1850, who married David Cornelius King, Born 7-27-1867, who was
my husband's ggrandfather.
Thanks again for the help. Helen
I'm re-posting my Philadelphia CAVES

original posting.

Seven sons born in Phila:

John b.1873
William E b. 1875

James was working in a woollen mill

I believe I have written you before. Here I am again. JIM,
This morning read your web page.
The thing that I am facing is just not enough information on my end to link
to anyone's early work.
I have a g grandfather, Lewis Taylor Dodd who was born in a small town in
Texas, now a vanished community. He was born in 1843 (an early settler in
Texas, which was basically unsettled in that time) in the district, now
county of MILAM, town of SAND GROVE. He died there in 1908.
Somewhere, the name of his mother was written on our charts as: LUCY (CAVE)
DODD, born abt 1820 ish and place unknown. I have not even been able to find
her burial place. The husband was: Ashley Haywood DODD . Another "legend"
name.
I have not found them on any census. I have not found them in surrounding
areas. I have not found them on immigration ship lists. I have not found
Ashley on the confederate soldier lists or indigent soldier lists or any land
records.
If I try to find this CAVE and possible DODD family in earlier places in the
history of USA---I need some siblings.
Sincerely, I would appreciate it if you could check your old records of CAVE
familys in the eastern and southern states and see if you can find a LUCY
CAVE born after 1800 for me?
There were two CAVES familys in the 1790 federal census of north carolina and
the names were : CORNELIUS CAVES (two males and two females) and JOHN CAVES
(two males and three females) both familys living, Edenton District,
Currituck Co. North CARolina. There were eleven DODD familys-none in that
district.
I only have access to the North Carolina census-in a printed form. I do not
have access to the whole census.
Surely would appreciate all help, best guesses or ideas. I am not calling
this a stone wall---but I am looking for a crack.<grin> judy hugg grimes
I am Jim Cave in Palm Coast, FL (just returned from fleeing hurricane Floyd-only minor damage). My native state is Kentucky. My ancestor William Cave b. 1838, son of Robert and Mary ? Cave, moved to KY from the Orange Co area of VA in 1812c. I have a paper ancestry trail back to Robert Cave. Robert was contemporary with Benjamin the Burgess, David, Joseph, William of Stafford Co. and John of Stafford.
Can we establish the relationship of these men and their ancestors? I believe that the myths that Benjamin the Burgess was the progenitor of the VA Cave's and that he was a son of William of Windsor have been dispelled. Because of the English genealogist, J. H. Tyrrell and his chart, these myths have plagued Cave family members interested in their ancestry for years. E.g., I found this in the library of my home county historical society when I first started looking and thought that my job was to establish a tie to Benjamin as others were doing.
My web site is: http://www.pcfl.net/jimcave

My most recent Cave ancestor was Mary Jane Cave, b. Nov. 19, 1843 in Paris, Indiana. d. April 15, 1876, in Paris Indiana. was married to William Preston Wilson Sr.on Nov 21, 1861.
Father was William Cave, Jr. b. July 27, 1801, in England, d 1882 in Indiana.
Mother was Ella Russell b. Oct 26, 1817 d. Nov. 16, 1869
William cave Jr. father was William Cave Sr. no information
William Cave Sr. father was Stephen Cave, no information

I'm new to the list, so thought I'd post my relatives. I'm looking for
relatives of Anna Cave- Born Abt 1789 in Surry Cty. NC. She married
James H. Tucker- Born 1786, Died 1843. Thanks for any help. Helen
Welcome Kay! One never knows where a connection may be. Glad to have your
posting. As you probably know, but just in case you and others on the list
arent aware of it; our CAVE messages are archived in the Rootsweb archives.
By posting your messages, someone just might find you later on... it has
been a great way to find information on surnames.
Anyone else out there that hasnt posted? Please feel free to join the Roll
Call. You just might find a lost relative, or a connection to the area you
need to research.

Hi, Sue Ellen & listers
I'm a newbie to your list.

connections in US: but you never know.....
sending this just so I'm not too anonymous
