This is interesting. Others of us with the Louisiana connection will be watching
the Cavanaugh List so we can keep up to date on the info. I haven't heard from
the County Mayo Cavanaughs (Kavanaughs) in Shretagle recently.

Georgia, This is intriguing. My ancestor John Christopher Cavanaugh
(born
probably in 1804 in County Mayo) married in 1831 in Alabama and then ended
up
in Louisiana. His brother Patrick was with him. When I went back to
Shrtagle (County Mayo) in 1977 I met a family who claimed to be descended
from
John
and Patrick's brother Martin, who supposedly came with them to
the US but
then returned to Ireland. The family in Ireland who we visited also included a
sister named Bridgett. Of course all of these are standard Irish names, but
the geography and the similarity of the names makes me wonder.
Oh, by the way, we've lost touch with the Patrick side of the family, but
family stories say he "went North" and I keep thinking Pennsylvania has about
the largest collection of Cavanaughs I have found from that time period.
So if you do have any information that dovetails with this I'd love to have
it.
I'd also like to know what DNA test was able to pinpoint County Mayo.
Cordially,
Michael Cavanaugh
Baton Rouge, Louisiana

points to this family coming from Co. Mayo. They were in Scranton by 1850.
Children: Bridget, Michael, Martin, Mary, Sarah, John, and Patrick. The names
Peter and Thomas are also prevalent in the next generations in this family. I
have some census information (PA) that I can share if anyone thinks they are
related.
