It has been around ten years since my husband, father, and I were in Shretagle, so
perhaps things have changed. The area was off the usual tourist trek - lots of
sheep, geese, people digging peat, good views of the sea - (Patrick's Head?).
If I remember correctly, the village is close to Portulin, a fishing village between
Ballina and Belmullet. I found Shretagle on a detailed - VERY detailed - map of
Ireland. The link below shows Portulin, but not Shretagle or the roads to get
there.

Thanks, Michael. We know that our Cafferty and McGuire families were
from
the area around Ballina/Westport, so have wondered if the Cavanaugh's could
be from that area, also. I hope to be able to share more info with you after
hearing back from the two men who matched my husband's DNA 36 of 37
markers.
It seems that all of my husband's ancestors were of Irish origin
and came to
Scranton, PA, at various times, the Kinsella's having stopped off for a
generation to be born in England before a son came to Scranton. More later.
