In my husband's family we had heard that the Caffertys and McGuires came from Co. Mayo
around Ballina area. Ballina is the Sister City to Scranton. DNA matches show that our
Cavanaughs probably came from Co. Mayo, also. I've tried to read microfilm of parish
registers, but it is difficult and many years are missing (usually the years you need).
You may have heard the story that hundreds of years ago there were 3 brothers who moved to
different areas of Ireland. When we were in Co. Wexford near Enniscorthy 4 years ago, the
B&B owner took us to Vinegar Hill (site of the 1798 Rebellion) and told us to look out
in all directions. She said it was at one time all Kavanagh/Cavanaugh country.
The National Library in Dublin is supposed to have the microfilms from the parishes, so
maybe we'll try to read some more there. See Clann info in previously posted message.
