Hi,
I've been struggling with my branch of the Cavanaughs, and their origins in Ireland.
You haven't found a Timothy Cavanaugh in Sligo? Father, Patrick b. abt 1784 Ire.?
Timothy had sons, Thomas b. 1848, Matthew b. 1851, and John b. 1855, all supposedly born
in PA.
Also, if you do come across a Martin Carroll b. abt 1846 in Ire, father James, mother
Mary. Then that would help, too. Martin, his parents and brothers are found in England
census in 1861. I believe they went to Eng to escape the famine. Then in 1870-ish Martin
travelled to Scranton. His wife, Mary Ann and their 4 children followed in 1872.
Unfortunately, Carroll is one of the most common surnames in Ireland. But Cavanaugh is
less common.
I also have a Loretta A. Riebel b. 1902, marrying Joseph Nealon in Scranton. Loretta
Riebel is the daughter of John B. Riebel and Loretta Carroll. Loretta Carroll is the 5th
child of Martin and Mary Ann Carroll I mentioned above.
Did Margaret Cavanaugh and Martin Nealon have a son Joseph, or perhaps a grandson?
Regards,
Alix
