Hello. I hope someone may be able to help me with the following family
lines. Any assistance would be very much appreciated and I am happy to
share information.
I am searching for:
James Joseph Cavanaugh, b. Ireland; emigrated to Brooklyn, NY; m. Mary Ann
Gavin.
Mary Ann Gavin, b. England.
Their son:
James Lawrence Cavanaugh, b. 10 January 1882 in Brooklyn, NY; d. 22 June
1947 in Brooklyn, NY; m. Catharine Agnes Robertson 13 December 1914 in
Brooklyn, NY.
Catharine Agnes Robertson, b. 29 September 1893-96 in Brooklyn, NY; d. 26
February 1974 in Brooklyn, NY.
James and Catherine Cavanaugh had 12 children and have numerous descendants
all over the NY area, as well as Florida.
James Joseph and Mary Ann, however, remain a mystery. Apparently many of
the James Cavanaughs in NY in the mid to late 1800s married women named
Mary or Mary Ann! Finding the right James and Mary Ann has been a
challenge. I have located a family in both the 1880 and 1900 Censuses that
look promising, but have been unable to find further documentation to
conclusively determine whether or not this family is in my line. The Census
info on this family is as follows:
1880: (address Sackett St.) Brooklyn, 6th Dist, 6th Ward, Kings Co., NY)
Jas. Cavanaugh, 26, laborer, b. Ireland
Mary Ann Cavanaugh, 27, b. England
Julia, 2, b. England
Nora, 1, b. England
(living at same address, another household of Cavanaughs: Thomas, 47; Mary,
44; Delia, 14; Lizzie, 8.)
1900: (address 128 Harrison St.) Brooklyn, 2nd Dist., 57th ED, Kings Co.,
NY)
James Cavanaugh, b. May 1855 Ireland, 45, emigrated 1878, laborer, married
25 years.
Mary A. Cavanaugh, b. Aug. 1852 England, 47, emigrated 1879, 4 of 5
children living.
Julia V. Cavanaugh, b. July 1877, England, 22, emigrated 1879.
Mary Cavanaugh, b. May 1883 New York, 17.
Thomas J. Cavanaugh, b. Jan, 1889 New York, 11.
Again, any info regarding any of these individuals would be appreciated.
Thanks!
Lisa
