Does anyone on this list have a connection to mid-19th Century Cavanaughs (including
other spellings) who might have had a particular family member and siblings come over
from either Wexford or Carlow via Liverpool on a ship called "The Intelligencer"
in 1853? I believe that my ancestor, Charles Cavanaugh, made this voyage when he was about
6 years old. He eventually went to New Windsor, NY, and worked for years in the brickyards
along the Hudson River. His parents, Bernard and Mary Anne McMahon, evidently did not come
over at that time, or at least are not mentioned in the ship's manifest.
Until last week, I had no idea from where in Ireland Charles had come, but in a visit to
County Wexford last week, noted that there was a concentration there and in neighboring
County Carlow of both the Cavanaugh and McMahon family names. I am specifically seeking
more information on Charles' parents.
