Obituaries
F.D. Cavanaugh Dies In Renton
Fred D. Cavanaugh, 76 years old, of Renton, who was born on the site of Boeing Field, died
this morning. Funeral services will be held at 3 o'clock Monday in the Butterworth
Chapel.
Mr. Cavanaugh's parents, Mr. and Mrs. M.L. Cavanaugh, came to this area in 1862 by
covered wagon from Missouri. They little realized that the land they homesteaded one day
would be the center of activity for flying ships from around the world.
Mr. Cavanaugh was the retired owner of a coal mine near Renton and also was owner of a
sand business. He was a member of the Washington State Pioneers' Association.
A former pupil of Duwamish Valley School, he was a regular attendant at the school's
annual alumni picnic.
Surviving are his widow, Edith L.; two sons, Fred B., Portland, Oregon and Milton B.,
Yakima; a brother, Frank, American Lake and three sisters, Mrs. Alvina Roberts and Mrs.
Rose Newell, of Seattle and Mrs. Emma Fulford, Portland, Oregon.
