The Daily Review, Decatur IL, 16 Nov 1910, pg. 10
Mrs. Michael Cavanaugh died at 2:40 Wednesday morning at the home of her mother, Mrs.
Frances A. Shields, 1560 East Wood street, apoplexy being the cause. She was 52 years and
6 days old. She was taken sick a month ago at their home in Clovis, N.M. and three weeks
ago, with her husband, came to this city for medical attention. It proved unavailing,
however, and she grew worse.
Mrs. Cavanaugh was formerly Amanda M. Shields. She was born in Missouri, but had resided
in this county ever since she was a small child. She was married thirty eight years ago
last April 20th to Michael Cavanaugh, formerly a highway commissioner and well known
throughout the county. For thirty-five years they lived northwest of the city, and for a
long time ran the old Cavanaugh brick yard. Two years ago they removed to New Mexico to
make it their home. Mrs. Cavanaugh was always a prominent church and Sunday school worker
in the Church of God and Free Methodist church here and since living in New Mexico had
done a great deal of work organizing Sunday schools. She is survived by her husband, one
son, J. E. Cavanaugh of Oklahoma City, and four brothers and one sister, as follows John,
residing in western Kansas, Alfred of Kinmundy and Henry, Albert and Martha, all of
Decatur.
The funeral services will be held at Boiling Springs church at 2:30 o'clock Thursday
afternoon and will be conducted by Rev. D. N. Taylor and Rev. James Hobbs. The interment
will be at Boiling Springs Church.
