Greetings,
I am going to assume that sometimes this name is also spelt Cavanough which
appears to be the case in our family in Australia.
We are descended from Owen Cavanough b 1762 Gosport England - he had
siblings Ann Canavough 1766-1767, and another Ann Cavanough b 1768.
Owen Cavanough was a sailor on HMS Sirius which sailed with the First Fleet
to Australia in 1788 - after arrival he stayed and married Margaret
Darnell - a seven year prisoner on the Prince of Wales - another in the
First Fleet.
I have thoroughly researched this family and have published a book:
Grandma! Where did I come from?
Book 3.
Cavanough, Livingstone, Dick Families.
First Fleeters & Australian Pioneers.
ISBN 0 9578003 2 0 (Printed 2000)
The book sold out in 2003 but after a number of requests I have decided to
reprint a limited number. If anyone wants a copy I need orders placed
within 14 days for the number to be printed. You can check out details on
my website. Cost in Australia is $40 per copy plus $10 postage.
If anyone is interested please contact me personally on my email below. You
can also check the details on my website (below) and the full index is on
Rootsweb and also on DPS website
