the Cavenaughs of Duplin, Pender and New Hanover
Counties of NC. They are:
CAVENAUGH:
In 1761 George Cavenaugh received a George J. Cavenagh
received a pension grant from King George
III on the Irish Establishment per the newspaper
*(get name of newspaperand the book found in)
Silvester Cavenaugh, born about 1750 and died in April
1799, in Duplin County, NC. In 1784 he was listed as
head of household with two sons and a wife.
In his will, 035 80002 /63 04/23/1799, he gave
William 105 acres and the mare, find breeding sows,
black heffer and calf, bridle, heffer with calf, whit
basked heffer, three ewes and lambs. and James 100
acres and the red yearling bull. They divided:
bedstead, furniture, musket, dish basin, one big pot,
one skillet, one good axe, one good grubbing hoe, one
smitty rim, thin new sheers, and the use of the cart.
there was an ireon wedge, and James got "one pasel of
new feathers from the geese, enough to fill two
feathers beds.
No spouse was listed. His chldren were:
I. William Cavenaugh. married on January 21, 1800 to
Anna Baily and is not located later.
II James Cavenaugh. He remained in the area and his
information is listed below.

1. Maria, born 1805. Maria (or Mariah) never married.
She lived with her parents until they died and she

Rochelle, the daughter of Benjamin Rochelle. Their
children are:
A. George Wright Cavenaugh, born 1841. He was a
Confederate Soldier with the 30th Infantry, Co. E, The
Turpentine Boys.
B. Barbara Cavenaugh, born 1845
C. William Cavenaugh, born 1838
D. James D. Cavenaugh, born 1838 - 1844. He was a
Confederate Soldier with the 30th Infantry, Co. E, The
Turpentine Boys. He married Martha Teachey, born
1828. She was the daughter of Henry & Elizabeth
Teachey. The 1880 Census shows Elizabeth Teachey
(1797) living with them. Their children are:
1. Eli Cavenaugh, born 1862.

E. Henry Cavenaugh, born 1850
F. Silvester Cavenaugh, born May 1851. He married
Harriet, born 1862. Their children are:
1. George T. Cavenaugh, born December 18, 1879.

H. Michajah (spelling) Cavenaugh, born 1858
2. In 1880 we found Bryant to be remarried to Mary
Deal, born 1827 and her children, Bryant's stepchldren
are:

3. Joseph E. Cavenaugh, born 1814, married Sarah E.
born 1831. The 1880 Census shows Diecy Rochelle (1838)
living with them. Their children are:
A. Stephen H. Cavenaugh, born 1845. He maried
Harriet, born 1852. The 1880 Census Report shows a
Sabrina Norris (1809) as living with them. Their
children are:
1. George Cavenaugh, born 1870
2. J. S. Cavenaugh (son), born 1872
3. E.C. Cavenaugh (daughter), born 1874
4. W.W. Cavenaugh (son) born 1879

E. SM (female) Cavenaugh, born 1872
4. James Cavenaugh, Jr. born November 1816 and died
March 1899. He married Elizabeth Williams, born 1814,
the daughter of Hopkins Williams and Elizabeth
Kilpatrick. Per the Census records, James & Betsy were
close neighbor to David English. The 1860 value of
property was $1,000.
In his will, 035.8002 4/537, he left his wift Betsy
the land and house with 8 lbs corn, 400 lbs bacon, all
household and kitchen furniture. Daniel W. was son
from first marriage and he received the feather bed
because the bed had been left to him by his mother,
James' first wife. Daughters: Rebecca W. Lanier, Mary
Jane Rouse received 50 lbs hogs lard, beehives, geese,
etc. Granddaughter: Margaret Southerland. He also
mentioned John W. Hollingsworth as an orphan boy that
he raised.

A. Jacob Cavenaugh, born 1840. He was a Confederate
Soldier with the 30th Infantry, Co. E, The Turpentine
Boys. He married Mary Rogers, born 1844. The 1880
Census Report did not show any children but did show
Ellen Chastain, born 1812 and Charles Rogers, born
1853 living with them.
B. John E. Cavenaugh, born 1842. He was a Confederate
Soldier with Duplin Rifles, CSA Company C, 2nd
Regiment, NC Volunteers. He was wounded at Hanover
Junction, May 24 and Snicker's Gap July 18, 1864.
Captured April 6 on retreat from Petersburg; released
after the war. He married Catherine Henderson, born
1845. Her mother was Mary Henderson (1802). Their
children are:

C. James H. Cavenaugh, born 1844. He was a Confederate

Lanier
E. Rilla Elizabeth Cavenaugh, born 1849. She was the
first wife of David William Rouse, born 1841. He ws
the son of Albert and Elizabeth Rouse. They married
on May 17, 1868. Their only child was:
1. Martha (Margaret) A. Rouse, born 1868.
F. Daniel W. Cavenaugh, born 1851
G. Mary Jane Cavenaugh, born March 26, 1855 and died
September 22, 1932. She was the
second wife of David William Rouse, born September
1, 1841 and died September 25, 1915. He was the son
of Allfred Rouse and Elizabeth Rouse. They are buried
in the Clay Hill Cemetary, Rose Hills, NC. Their
children are:

born March 15, 1884 and she died July 13, 1961. They
are buried in Clay Hill Cemetary, Rose Hill, NC
11. Ludie Rouse, born April 13, 1892 and died December
09, 1954. She married J. Bert English. Refer to the
English Chart for a continuation of her lineage. She
died of heart diesease at 1:00 PM and is buried in
Cavanaugh Cemetary, Hwy 41, Wallace, NC.
12. Carson Rouse, born July 07, 1896 and died January
26, 1969. He married Sally Murphy and later married
Nita Anderson, born August 12, 1895 and she died
June 08, 1974. Carson Rouse was NC WWI PVT I .
Carson and Nita are buried in Clay Hill Cemetary, Hwy
11, Charity, NC.

English, the son of Thomas English, born 1811 in
Pender County, NC and died prior to 1870. He was the
son of James English (abt 1790). Refer to the English

A. Monroe English, born September 1844. He was a
Confederate Soldier in the 4th Cavalry. He married
Nancy Burton, born 1862 and was the daughter of
Charles Burton of Cypress Creek. Their child was:
1. Curtis English, born , married Lucy Hanchey.
They had no children.
B. Fleet English, born December 1849. He never
married and died December 27, 1933.
C. Thomas English, born October 19, 1852 and died
February 14, 1918. He married Ada Bradshaw, born July
28, 1969 and died August 24, 1946. She was the
daughter for Samuel Bradshaw (1843) and Catherine Jean
Savage (1842). Refer to the English Chart for a
continuation of their lineage.
