I don't have any Cavanaugh's in Coles Co. IL but I'm amazed at how much that
county comes up in my genealogy correspondence. Does anyone know what was
going on there in the 1800's?
My Roseann Cavanaugh was married in 1809 in Rothwell, Yorkshire, ENG to
Samuel Wilson. He was a tailor and they lived in Leeds where he could ply
his trade. They had children in Leeds who were christened at St. Peter's
Church. Mary, 1811, my ancestor; James, 1813; Elizabeth, 1815; and
strangely, Elizabeth, 1817. I'm thinking the first Elizabeth died and they
had another one. They sailed for Baltimore 1818-1819. Of course, too early
for the usual ships records. In Baltimore, Sam again worked as a tailor, and
they had two more children, Samuel Wilson bn about 1824, and Rhoda, bn about
1826. Then Samuel Wilson Sr. died of a fever and Roseann took her children
and went to KY before 1830. She must have been a plucky lady! She claimed
to have been born in Ireland. I think she was only about 19 when she got
married in Yorkshire.
