Hello all.
I have a brick wall in Bridget CAVANAGH. Her death certificate notes that she was born in
County Clare,
Ireland about 1839/40 to Patrick CAVANAGH and Ellen KELLY. The rumour is that
she came from the western districts, perhaps Colac. She was eighteen years of
age when she married, so it would not be surprising if her parents were here as well, but
I have not found them yet.
Bridget married Joseph SHEAHAN on 31st march 1857 in Geelong, Victoria, Australia. She was
18 years old.
She was reportedly a heavy-set woman. On Saturday, 19th October 1895, she attended a race
meeting in Melbourne. The temperature hit 103ºF.
Three people died, whether actually at the races or on their way home is
unknown. Bridget was one of them. She was buried in the St
Kilda cemetery on Tuesday, 22nd October.
I have drawn blanks in searching the Colac records, the Victorian BDMs & NSW BDMs for
any trace of her parents. Searches of immigrant lists have produced ambiguous results so
far.
Any connections anywhere out there?
Any suggestions?
Best wishes for the New Year
John
