Hello
My family stayed in Britain until I immigrated to Canada as a child in 1956,
so I don't think there may be any connection to your Peter Cavanagh. My
mother, siblings and I were the first of my family to leave Britain. The
only connection would be in Ireland prior to 1879, but I do not know where
my grandfather, Thomas or my great-grandfather, Michael came from in
Ireland.

My g-g-g grandfather Peter Cavanagh (born 1786) was from Meathe, parish of
Horeston. He came to Canada with the British army (100th foot, later
renamed to 99th foot) to fight in the war of 1812 between Canada and the
US.
I don't know of anyone so far that has been able to find parents for my
Peter in Ireland.
Could be that your John may be from the same family as my Peter but a
later relative?
Peter did not likely have any children in Ireland before coming to Canada.
He had 12 years of service on his military record when he retired in 1818.
