Hi there My ancestor Cavanaghs came from Annaghdown in Galway and I was
wondering if any out there might be able to tell how they came to be in
Galway in the first place. Francis and Cecily (nee Ford) Cavanagh had 6
children that I know of who were born or christened in Annaghdown
between 1833 and 1843. I would like to make contact with anyone doing
research into Cavanaghs or Kavanaghs in the area. My line came to
Southland New Zealand in 1856 the first of whom was William Cavanagh
1835 -1873, he was also the first of the Irish Catholics to land in
there and was to lead the way for the others to follow, so if you are
researching these families; Kilkelly, Caufield, Caulfield, Brown, Burke,
Forde, Murphy, Leonard, Hurley or Finnerty, who came from Annaghdown,
Drumgriffin, Coteenty, Corrandulla areas I would like to hear from you.
Other family members were John Francis 1833-1910 (my Gt Grand father),
Margaret 1840-1918 who married John Caulfield, Thomas 1841-1907, Michael
1841-1915 and Cecily bn 1843. I am looking forward to making contact
with anyone doing similar research in the Annaghdown area and would be
most grateful for any help or hints to help me out along the way.
