Hi Hal,
My Christopher is a much earlier Christopher than the Revolutionary War person although
they may be related in some way. I tracked the processioning neighborhoods of the St. Paul
Episcopal Vestry Book 1706-1786. I read that book through several times and plotted all
the Cawthon's and other spellings of the name. Many were just noting that a person was
being cared for once the reached an aged condition, but through the years you could see
which families came in and which left.
My Charles Cawthon (when a young man) left Hanover County and joined up with the
Charles Spradling in Amelia County in 1744. I traced the two names back and landed in
Hanover County. In the Vestry book I see that for years before 1744 we have Cawthon and
Spraddlin activity.. The earliest showing of Christopher Cawthorn is 1719. By 1731 William
Cawthon joins the neighbors along with John Spraddling and they are along the same route
or in other words they are neighbors.
