On the Road Again's message reminded me of the following. Thought I'd share
it with the Causey-L.
===========================================================
Confused about recent messages from 'off the wall' correspondents?
Wonder why you are getting messages that do not seem to have any interest to
you and your research? Getting 'non-sequitor' messages with no context?
Okay. Here is why:
We are all getting multiple messages and messages addressed to the
Causey-L list of Rootsweb because Rootsweb and the FamilyHistory Causey
Forum have combined their services and the Family History Forum is the
survivor.
Currently, both are still active, but we should expect that soon the
Causey-L Rootsweb Forum will be a thing of the past.
So...When you post to the Causey-L list (it was, more or less, a
'closed' forum, i.e., limited to subscribers), the same is now posted on the
Ancestry.com's Family History Causey Forum (a definite 'open' forum), and
vice versa.
If you opted to be notified when someone responded to your post on the
Family History Causey Forum, then you will get a notice indicating someone
has responded and directed to go to the Family History Forum to see the
response.
Ergo, if you post to the (old) Causey-L list, a copy is posted on the
Family History Causey Forum. And...you will be notified by Family History
that someone has responded to your message on the Forum.
Under the right circumstances you may receive four (4) separate pieces
of e-Mail about a posting.
It is also advisable to remember that under such postings, there is no
privacy, not even the limited privacy that was inherent in the Causey-L list
subscription.
Whatever you post is now 'broadcast' to the net and available for
reading on the Family History Causey Forum.
It is also true that in order to successfully execute a continuing
'dialog', care must be taken to insure that your message has some continuity
and reflects information contained in the previous, or referenced, posting.
Including a copy of the query, or posting to which you are responding to
and/or commenting upon is one way to help maintain the dialog.
