From my copyrighted history manuscript of the Descendants of William
Causey, 1744-1828.
Quote "Adelaide Fairbanks, born 30 Jul 1875 died 23 Oct 1961, married Lewis Dean
Causey, Sr. abt. 1929.
Adelaide is a daughter of Charles Warren Fairbanks, Vice President of the United States,
1904-1909, under Teddy Roosevelt and for whom Fairbanks, Alaska was named. Mr. Fairbanks
was a financier noted in commercial and industrial circles for the Fairbanks-Morse
manufacturing plants. (See more on Charles Warren Fairbanks at:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charles_W._Fairbanks)
Adelaide was the oldest child, and had four brothers:
Warren b. 1878
Frederick Cole b. 1881
Richard Monroe b. 1883
Robert b. 1886
Adelaide was married three times before her marriage to Lewis Dean Causey; one of these to
a Timmons. Adelaide and her two brothers inherited vast wealth from her father. Being
childless, Lewis and Adelaide adopted eight children, six from three sets of twins.
Lewis Dean Causey served in the U. S. Navy as a Captain. In 1938, 'Dean' returned
from Los Angeles according to Harriet Rose McLain's journal.
'Dean' attended the U. S. Naval Academy from 1901-1905 and then served in the Navy
for 30 years, retiring just prior to WWII. He had served in the submarine service during
WWI and rapidly advanced to commanding a fleet of submarines.
After WWI, he was assigned by the U. S. Navy Department the task of reorganizing the navy
of Argentina. Following his voluntary retirement, he then went back on active service
following the bombing of Pearl Harbor, Hawaii on Dec. 7, 1941. The Liberty, MS
'Southern Herald' printed an article on April 20, 1944 in which it was reported
that he had returned from Sydney, Australia and stopped in McComb, MS on his way to see
his family in Arizona.
Following his first retirement, he and his family lived near Norwood, East Feliciana
Parish, LA at their farm, Richard Plantation.
The news article stated that his parents', Will I. and Hattie McLain Causey, home
"is still in possession of the Causey family since it was granted by the U. S.
Government to their great-grandfather, Capt. William Causey of the Revolutionary Army as
recompense for his services with the American armed forces from Maryland during the
Revolution."
All of Lewis Dean's children were adopted, including at least three sets of
twins." Unquote
It seems likely that the certificate in question was a souvenir of a return trip made by
CAPT Causey at the end of WWII. The Macmillen who also signed the certificate is unknown.
