Ok you youngsters - take it easy on this old brain. I'm having trouble tracking all of
this but one thing is pretty sure. We're all related one way or another.
First: My gggrandmother was Nancy Susan McKnight Causey. Wife of Wright Causey and
daughter of Hiram and Mary Sims.
Wright Causey was the son of Absolom Causey and Frances Stocks Causey. This family came
from Craven County NC through GA and was in Chambers, Coosa,Tallapoosa and other
surrounding counties during the late 1830's - 60's. The 1820 census of Craven
County lists Absolom with 1 male age 10 and under, 3 males age 16-26, 1 male 26-45, and 1
male 45 and upwards. 3 females under age 10, 1 female 10 to 16, 1 female 26 to 45, 1
female 45 and upward as well as 1 foreigner not naturalized. So there were 5 boys and 4
girls. I have identified 4 of the boys and perhaps the James that is buried in the same
cemetery as Absolom is the 5th. I can't say at this time. I have only accounted for
two of the girls with a possiblr name of a third given to me by another resercher that I
have not been able to verify.
Absolom's brother Philip married Frances Stock's sister Susannah which would help
explain the girl named Susannah Frances in Christopher's family.
In 1830 Absolom is listed in Jones County, GA where it is also recorded that he, wright
(and I believe John & William) drew land in the lottery there. The census recorded
only one male besides Absolom and 4 females. As the eldest female was under 40, I think
Frances was deceased before the census was taken. Absolom's name is mentioned in
legal documents in Chambers County along with John McKnight and Hiram Sims so we know he
made it there. As he is not listed in the 1840 census it is pretty certain that he is the
A. Causey buried in the Primitive Baptist Cemetery. But since the church itself burned
down with (presumably) all records included, there is no way to prove or disprove this
theory.
Many of the grandsons (and possibly a son)of Absolom served and some died in the Civil War
including Greenberry, son of Wright and Nancy Susan. After the war and before 1869 Wright
moved to Cherokee County, Texas where his sister Mary and her husband Hiram McKnight
(brother to Nancy Susan) lived. Nancy Susan does not appear with him on the 1870 census
there and I do not know if she made it to Texas or not.
Wright Franklin (eldest son of Christopher) and wife Adeline Ray moved to Rusk County,
Texas which is next to Cherokee County. One of Wright's son's named a son
Christopher.
I will be happy to share any info that I have but would you mind emailing me direct?
It's hard for me to follow who said what in this format. Sorry, guess it comes with
age.
